HOME GUARD
MASTERTON ACTIVITIES MORE MEMBERS REQUIRED. SPECIAL DRIVE TO COMMENCE ON MONDAY. The Masterton Battalion of the Home Guard is now approaching its second year of existence. During the winter months its activities have naturally been somewhat circumscribed by weather conditions, although all parades have been held wet or fine, and the amount of keenness maintained has been remarkable. With the approach of summer an interesting programme with a wide scope for open air work is being mapped out. Specialist platoons are being formed. Officers and N.C.O.’s have been taking special refresher courses in camps at Trentham. Palmerston North and elsewhere. Two hundred more recruits are required immediately to bring the Battalion up to the full strength necessary to carry out this programme. The week commencing Monday next has been fixed as a special recruiting week in which a drive will be made to enrol the necessary 200 extra men. The Press, the theatres and many business houses have given assurances of full co-operation in bringing this urgent requirement before the public. Special Home Guard displays will appear in the windows of the W.F.C.A. Ltd., and Messrs John Graham and Co. An outline of Home Guard affairs will be given from day to day in the “Times-Age” next week. ROUTINE ORDERS.
