PROSPECTS OF SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. (By “The Grafter.”) The Masterton Racing Club has received good nominations for its meeting on October 9 and 11, and if the acceptances are satisfactory—and there is every indication that they will be—the club should record a successful meeting. The first race will start at 11.45 a.m. each day. The average number of entries per race is over sixteen. The class of horse nominated should be a guarantee that the racing will be of a very interesting character and provide close finishes. The club’s capable secretary, Mr N. H. James, is making every effort to place on record the most successful meeting ever held in the history of the Masterton Racing Club, and he has the active support of a keen and energetic body of stewards whose loyalty to the club, often in the face of depressing circumstances, has kept it in the forefront of similar institutions in the Dominion. Special attention is to be given to the comfort and the interests of racing patrons, and every effort is being made to assure that there will be no reason for complaint. The train arrangements should suit patrons from beyond Masterton, while there will be a convenient service of motor vehicles to and from the course at Opaki. I Weights are due to be announced I on Monday, September 29, and acceptances will close on Monday, October 6.
