PRODUCTION FALL
IN BRITISH ENGINEERING INDUSTRY NEED OF BETTER PLANNING. A COMPREHENSIVE BASIS. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, September 24. “It is an unpleasant truth that war production in the engineering industries, measured by the square foot of factory space and pound weight of product per man, has declined,” said Mr E. Gordon England, chairman of 'the Engineering Industries Association, at a special meeting of war production engineers in London. “The principal cause is lack of a comprehensive plan fully to use the productive capacity of every available man hour, both managerial and operative. The re- ’ suit is inefficiencies and muddles. We urgently need a new conception of the relationship between the Government and industry, with a view to an allembracing plan for production.”
