LIMIT ON PROFITS

PROPOSED IN UNITED STATES. TREASURY EXPECTS DRAFTING BILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, at Noon.) WASHINGTON, September 25. The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr H. Morgenthau, in a statement, to the Press, announced today that Treasury experts were drafting a Eill limiting corporation profits to 6 per cent. He said: “We are going to make it as fair as possible, but of course somebody is going to get hurt. We cannot continue to live as we are and be the arsenal of democracy. We ought to remove the profit motive from war or national defence.” Asked whether industry would cooperate under the profit limitation plan, Mr Morgenthau replied in the affirmative, saying: “I have sufficient confidence in industry. They are as patriotic as anyone else.”
