SUMMER STRAW HATS

A LONDON SUBSTITUTE. From necessity, a well-known hat designed of London has found a substitute for summer straw hats. Shapes were formerly imported from France and Italy, and large quantities cf those were burned in the December “blitz" in London. The designer is now using hats of artificial silk, woven and patterned to represent straw, for his 1941 summer styles. He has made one model which looks like a panama, but is actually woven from men’s artificial shirting. This model is so attractive that some think that women may not want to go back to real straw hats. The now silky imitations, it is claimed, make a much softer frame for the face.
