QUESTION OF ELECTION
PRIME MINISTER REFUSES TO BE DRAWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An unsuccessful attempt to obtain from the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, some indication of when he proposed making a statement on the election issue was made by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, before the House rose last night. Mr Fraser had announced that the Public Works Statement would be considered today, when Mr Holland asked if any other important statement could be expected. “I would like to announce that the public is awaiting some news about the election.” Mr Holland said. Mr Richards (Government, Roskill): “Waiting to finish you off.” Mr Fraser: “Order, order.” An Opposition member: “Sounds like a caucus meeting.” Mr Fraser: “I hope the progress made tomorrow will facilitate all sorts of positions.” Mr Holland: “Then you will make a statement tomorrow night?” Mr J. O’Brien ( Govermrient, Westland): “We will tell you first.”
