CHURCH CONCERT

ST. MATTHEW’S SUNDAY SCHOOL EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. ■ WELL RECEIVED BY PACKED ATTENDANCE. A packed hall greeted the annual St Matthew’s Sunday School concert in the Parish Hall, Masterton, last night. The function proved an outstanding success and was considered to be the best concert yet held. A particularly high standard of entertainment was reached by all performers. and the greatest credit is due to those responsible for the skilful training received by the pupils. Following the opening chorus Fay and Jean Rawlins played a pianoforte duet and the junior girls presented a play entitled “The Open Window.” Lesley Blick gave a song, which was followed by a Pixie ballet. Yvonne Burridge played a pianoforte solo, which was- followed by a play by the junior girls, entitled “The Old Arm Chair.” Choruses were given by Miss Robinson's pupils. A play “No Fear” was presented by the boys from Sedgly Home. A recitation by Barry Bright was followed by a tap dance by Geraldine Inder and Melva Wickens. During the interval the Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich congratulated the children on the splendid entertainment provided and thanked the teachers and all who had assisted for their good work. Contributions to the second half of the programme included songs by the choir boys, a recitation by Rita Fitzwater, a tap dance by Margaret and Melva Wickens. a pianoforte solo by Jocelyn Heath, a ballet gavotte, a recitation by P. Reid, a play “Seven to Seven Thirty,” by the senior girls; a pianoforte solo by B. Henson; songs. “The Gospel Train." “The Stranger of Galilee." and "God Defend New Zealand."
