UNITED TENNIS CLUB
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING SEASON. A meeting of the executive committee of the United Lawn Tennis Club was held in Masterton last night. Mr E. M. Hodder presided. There were also present: Mrs D. Caldwell, Miss U. Holtham, Messrs W. L. Marchbank, C. K. Long, P. Hawksworth, B. M. Hurley, J. C. Corbishley (treasurer) and C. J. Carle (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Miss B. Payton and the president, Mr J. Jameson. Messrs Marchbank and Hodder were appointed a ground committee and Mrs Caldwell and Messrs Hawksworth and Long (with power to co-opt additional members if necessary) were appointed a match committee. The matter of arranging for afternoon tea was left in the hands of Mrs Caldwell and Misses Payton and Holtham, with power to add. It was decided to hold a Yankee tournament on opening day, October 5. Messrs Long (club captain) and Hurley were appointed to run the tournament. It was agreed that the Memorial courts and pavilion should be used this season. The club captain was appointed convenor of a “working bee” to clean out the Memorial and Masterton pavilions and to carry out minor repairs. The offer by Mr Hodder to donate wire netting for repair work was accepted with thanks. Messrs Long, Corbishley and Carle were authorised to act on the bank account, two members out of three to be sufficient. Messrs Hodder and Jameson were empowered to discuss with the bankers the matter of making arrangements relating to the bank accounts and to report to the next meeting of the committee.
