OFFICIAL VISIT
GOVERNOR=GENERAL AND LADY NEWALL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TOMORROW CIVIC LUNCHEON & RECEPTION. Their Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall and Lady Newall will make an official visit to Masterton tomorrow. The arrangements include a gathering of children in Masterton Park, a civic luncheon at the Hotel Midland, a civic reception at. the Municipal Hall and a visit to Masterton Hospital. Business firms and others are requested by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, to ily as many flags as possible tomorrow, in honour of their Excellencies’ visit and to close offices, shops, etc., from 2 to 3.15 p.m. to enable everyone to attend the civic reception at the Municipal Hall. Mr Jordan expressed the hope this morning that the Municipal Hall would be filled, for the occasion and requested the public to join m the singing of the first and third verses of "God Save the King” at the conclusion of the civic reception. Following the arrival of Sir Cyril Newall and Lady Newall, at 11.30 a.m. the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan (accompanied by the Mayoress) and the Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith, will pay a brief call on his Excellency. A combined gathering of school children is to be held at Masterton Park, commencing at 11.45 a.m. In the event of wet weather this function will be held in the Municipal Hall. A Guard of Honour will be provided by Girl Guides and Boy Scouts. On arrival at the Park, their Excellencies will be met by the Mayor, who ' will present the heads of local schools and the chairmen of local school committees. The grandstand will be available to the public and it is hoped to have it filled with those wishing to view the proceedings.
A reception will be held at the Hotel Midland, at which representative citizens, including borough councillors, county councillors and other local body representatives, members of Parliament, etc., will be presented to their Excellencies. A civic luncheon at the Hotel Midland will follow, commencing al 1.0 p.m., to which local body representatives arc among those invited. At 2.15 p.m. a civic reception will be tendered to their Excellencies at the Municipal Hall. The first six bars of “God Save the King” will be played by the Masterton Municipal Band when their Excellencies reach their places on the platform. After the reading' of a formal address by the Mayor and his Excellency’s formal reply, addresses will be given by the Mayor (Mr Jordan), Mr Gordon Lee, chairman of the Masterton County Council and by Mr J. Robertson, member for Masterton. Sir Cyril Newall will then reply. The singing of the first and third verses of “God Save the King" in which the public is requested to take part will conclude the reception.
Following the civic reception, their Excellencies will visit Masterton Hospital at 3.0 p.m. At 4.0 p.m. Sir Cyril Newall will pay a brief visit to the Masterton Club and Lady Newall will visit the .rooms of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild and later the Ranfurly Club.
Their Excellencies will leave Masterton at about 5.0 p.m.
