REFORM IN IRAN
FUTURE OF THE EX=SHAH UNDER REVIEW
MEASURES TO RECOVER LOOT. EXTORTED FROM HIS PEOPLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 21. The ex-Shali of Iran, whose future is being dismissed by the British and Russian Governments, is reported to be still at his palace in Isfahan, in central Iran.
The Iranian Government has sent envoys to the ex-Shah to obtain his agreement to the restoration of the vast wealth he extorted from the people. He is reported to have £5,000,000 in the United States and an even greater amount in Britain. Parliament has set up several commissions to reform laws and practices which a month ago no one would have dared to question. One of these is in connection with State monopolies which in the past strangled commercial initiative for the benefit of the exShah.
Another point on which public opinion is set is that Parliament, after many years of subservience, shall have the supreme voice in the government of the country.
