The Vichy Government has set up a new body to stamp out violence and disorders in occupied France. It is officially described as a “committee to remedy economic and social difficulties.” The decision to establish the committee was taken today, when the Vichy Council of Ministers met to discuss the increasing resistance to the Nazis and to the Vichy regime. It is reported that nearly 3,000 people have been interned in the unoccupied zones for crimes against the Petain regime.

Marshal Petain, broadcasting to the nation, appealed to Parisians to help to end resistance to the German occupation forces in order to save the remainder of France from reprisal and penalties. He declared that the inhabitants of occupied France had an exceptionally heavy responsibility to the rest of France. If the attacks continued, innocent persons might bo involved. Marshal Petain said the attacks must be attributed to foreign ’ agents. 1 II is announced in Berlin that five Netherlanders have been shot for aiding British airmen who made a forced landing in Holland. More than a hunjdred people were arrested by the Nai zis in Brussels, following on the killing of a German soldier there.
