AIR=BORNE TROOPS
FORMATION OF AMERICAN BATTALION. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON, September 18. Following prolonged experimental work, the War Department has announced the formation of the first United States airborne infantry battalion.
It is to be equipped with small automobiles, motor-cycles, and bicycles. The initial strength will be 500 volunteers. Parachutes will not be used and the men will be transported in large troop-carrying planes. s
