Boundaries Redefined.

A notice in this week’s “Gazette” redefinies the boundaries of the borough of Masterton, the County of Masterton and the Te Whiti Riding of the Masterton County. Spinning of Wool. Demonstrations of an attachment, for fitting to a sewing machine to enable the spinning of wool to be carried out were given in Masterton yesterday by Mr D. Waldie, of Waitotara. The demonstrations were given at the residences of Mrs G. Ross, Lansdowne, and Mrs F. C. Brockett, Cole Street. Mr Waldie is specially interested in making his attachment available to those knitting for the Navy and Mercantile Marine and other patriotic work. Dairy Problems. The claim that, by voluntarily carrying out in the first year of the plan a 95 per cent effective survey (covering 1.750.000 cows), the dairy industry had proved its ability to answer thoroughly its own problems was made by Mr A. H. Ward, technical officer to the Herd Recording Department of the New Zealand Dairy Board, in a survey of work under the Herd Improvement Plan, given to the Dominion dairy conference in Wellington yesterday. Milk in Schools. “There is no argument about it, everywhere in the world where investigations have been undertaken as to the effect of a milk-in-schools scheme there has been found a general improvement in the health condition of the children, if a sufficient amount of milk is given,” said Dr. Duncan Cook, Medical Officer of Health in Palmerston North, when a report about a desire by the Auckland School Committees’ Association to have a definite scientific investigation on the matter was referred to him.
