GIRL GUIDES AN INTERESTING CEREMONY. (“Times-Age” Special.) An interesting ceremony took place in the garden of Mrs Bloxam’s home yesterday afternoon, when two Brownies, Valerie Fcllingham and Joan Willett, who had passed their examinations as first-class Brownies, ‘‘flew up” to the Girl Guides. Mrs Riddiford (Commissioner) presented wings to the two Brownies, after which they "flew” to their' patrols in the Guido Company and were then presented to their Captain, M. Bloxarn. WOMEN’S DIVISION PAHAUTEA BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Tuesday and was well attended. Mrs Ross presided. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Connell. It was reported that four pairs of siring mittens had been sent to the merchant navy. It was decided to send old clothing to the lepers in the Makogai hospital. Fifteen Christmas gift parcels are to bo packed for despatch to local soldiers who are serving overseas. A bring and buy stall was held to raise funds with which to purchase parcels. The dinner competition, which was won by Mrs Nunn, realised £4 3s 6d. This sum will bo aded to the parcel fund. A donation of £2 from the Featherston Returned Soldiers' Association will also be, credited to the fund. Competitions were won as follow: — Ginger biscuits, Mrs Connell; best bloom, Mrs Grant. The hostesses were Mesdames McKay and Cade. Euchre Tournament. There was a fair attendance at the euchre tournament held in the Anzac cardroom on Wednesday night. The winners were: Ladies, Mrs A. Wilson 1, Mrs J. Mellish and Mrs G. Farrier 2. Men: Mr Mahupuka 1, Mr McGuiucss 2. Aggregate: Ladies, Mrs Lowell and Mrs Cuff; men, Mr R. Cameron 1, Mr N. Fairbrother 2. Football Club’s Field Day. The Featherston Football Club will hold a field day on Saturday, when a programme of sports, an entertainment suitable for young and old, will be presented. The 440 yards football club relay race for the Black and White Cup, which was last won by the Red Star Club in 1934, should prove interesting. The events will commence at 1.30 p.m. A collection is to be taken in aid of the Red Cross Society funds.
