ITALIAN SHIP

SEIZED IN' UNITED STATES ALLOCATED TO BRITAIN. OTHER AXIS VESSELS TO BE TRANSFERRED. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, September 18. It is learned that the United States has allocated the former Italian merchant ship Lome, of 8.000 tons, to Britain. This foreshadows a series of transfers of seized Axis ships. The Leme is undergoing repairs at Portland (Oregon) where she was seized on March 29, after the crew had damaged the main engine and wrecked the auxiliaries. The vessel is being painted a drab grey and also is being equipped with an anti-magnetic mine-cable and gun-mounts.
