GN ELECTION POSTPONEMENT AND FORMATION OF NATIONAL GOVERNMENT. PRIME MINISTER’S REPLY TO DEPUTATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A deputation representing the People's Movement waited on the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) and Finance Minister (Mr Nash) today, requesting the formation of a National Government and the postponement of the forthcoming election. The deputations requests were outlined in a written statement read by Mr C. G. White, a Wellington solicitor. The statement declared that an election this year would only. end in the destruction of real national unity and in bitterness. In bringing about national unity in New Zealand, the Prime Minister would be doing a signal service to New Zealand’s war effort. Mr Fraser, replying, said he heartily approved the sentiment favouring national unity and the deputation’s request would receive thorough consideration, but he pointed out that the .question whether a National Government was essential for national unity, and also the question whether there should be a postponement of the election even in the present crisis, were subject to various opinions.
