Sensational allegations relating to the use of Government funds for purposes not approved by Parliament were made by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr J. W. Curtin, in the House of Representatives last night. This was the sequel to Mr Curtin’s “mystery question.” A special meeting of the Advisory War Council has been convened for today, to enable the Prime Minister to place important information before Labour members. j On the motion for the adjournment late last night, allegations of corruption in the payment of money to individuals, without the sanction of Parliament, were made by a Labour member, Mr Ward, who demanded that the full facts should be placed before the House. “MYSTERY QUESTION” MR CURTIN’S OPENING MOVE. CANBERRA, September 18. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Curtin, asked a question in the House of Representatives yesterday which intrigued his fellow members and caused wide speculation again today on what lies behind the “mystery.” The question which, among other things, referred to a “grave matter in relation to the public administration.” A vague reply given by the Prime Minister, Mr Fadden, was that he had already set the essential machinery in motion. It is understood that important developments are likely shortly.
