VOLUNTARY AIDS

KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY WORK. TRAINING AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL. The Masterton Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society has established a unit of kitchen and laundry voluntary aids and members are now receiving training at the Masterton Hospital. The training in each branch takes 40 hours and on completion members are recognised as units of the voluntary aid service and are entitled to wear the uniform and enjoy the same privileges as nursing voluntary aids. In order to have a really efficient service that can supply trained domestic V.A's. whenever assistance is called for, more members are required. All women feel that they want to do something in the way of war service and here is an opportunity for some to do so. It is important for trainees to realise that their services may be called for at any of the hospitals in the Wairarapa or any emergency hospitals that may be set up. It is required that they should be people who could leave their homes and give at least a week or a fortnight’s consecutive service. The Red Cross Society asks women who could be free for the necessary time and who are good at cooking or laundry work to give every consideration to the question of training as domestic V.A’s. and in this way help work that is being carried on by Ihe Red Cross and St John Nursing Division.
