DRESS SENSE
SHOULD BE ACQUIRED BY YOUNG GIRLS. When young girls start 1 choosing their own clothes they sometimes startle their mothers by departing, entirely from the youthful and simple things they have worn through their school days, and choosing challenging little confections rather in the persuasion of the costumes worn by cinema usherettes. It is rather difficult to impress oil, young girls the superior appeal of quiet clothes, the importance of good grooming, and the need to use a light hand with cosmetics. The figures, too, need some cultivating as bad posture habits often formed in adolescence take a lot of correcting. The first “growing up” aid should be a really helpful and perfectly fitted foundation. Young girls will doubtless acquire something for themselves over the counter, but foundations bought in such a way are likely to do more harm than good. Only a trained corsetiere can fit foundations properly, and figure-advice that she will give is likely to make more impression than admonitions at home.
There are foundations now especially designed for young girls, featherweight and washable little affairs of alternating stretch and non-stretch fabrics that are beautifully free and supple to wear and yet have surprising control. They mould the too angular and smooth bumpy figures in a way that will be most gratifying to buddingvanities. Over such a foundation the present fitted and trim little frocks can be worn with assurance. And the midriff control, lifted bustline and braced hips will automatically improve both posture and the walk. Young girls need some guidance in the selection of shoes and other items too, as their youthful fancy is sure to run to colours and high-heeled styles, regardless of fit and what they will do to the posture. But nothing is more important, than foundations as they reveal to the young more than anything else that she has a feminine form not to be marred with fussy and challenging dress. It is a kindness to young girls to direct their dress sense as so much of their future happiness depends on appearance.
