AN EARLY SETTLER
MRS E. E. HARRIS. CELEBRATES 89th BIRTHDAY TODAY. A highly respected resident of Masterton, Mrs Eliza E. Harris, of WorksopRoad, is today celebrating her 89th birthday with old time friends and relatives who' have come to tendei' their greetings to her. Her husband, the late Mr James Harris, and Mrs Harris were married in England on August 29, 1875, and emigrated to New Zealand very soon after, arriving in Lyttelton in the ship "Waitangi" the same year. The year following Mr and Mrs Harris decided to come to Wairarapa, where, in the persons of the late Mr and Mrs T. B. Mitchell, of Masterton, they were assured of the kindly advice and the companionship of true friends. Of an original family of four (two sons and two daughters) three are joining in today’s celebrations —Mrs M. Buick, of Akura, and Miss Florence Harris, and Mr Harry Harris, who also lives at the old Worksop Road home. Another son. Mr Sydney Harris died some years ago.
