FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT

STANDARDISATION PROPOSED. AT MASTERTON HOSPITAL. At the meeting- of the Wairarapa Hospital Board held in Masterton yesterday afternoon it was decided to standardise the fire fighting equipment at the Masterton Hospital with that of the Masterton Fire Brigade. The secretary, Mr Norman Lee, said that all the board’s institutions were well equipped with fire fighting apparatus and that there was little to worry about. An improvement which could be made at Masterton Hospital, however, had been suggested by Mr T. B. Clark, Fire Superintendent. Mr Clark had suggested that the present ball hydrants should be replaced with valve hydrants, and standardised with the brigade's equipment. If that were done the brigade could couple hosing on to the present lengths. The work) recommended by the fire superintendent some time ago had been carried out. The Pahiatua equipment was standardised with that of the brigade. As in the case of Greytown Hospital all the equipment in the board’s institutions was of a high standard. On the motion of Mr W. I. Armstrong, seconded by Mi' F. S. H. Bolton, it was decided to'carry out the work of standardisation at a cost of approximately £5O.
