The Hon. Adam Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, left Wellington for the south last night by the steamer express.
Mr JS. F. Hemingway, chairman of the Wanganui Education Board since 1932, has now completed 25 years as a member of the board.
Mi’ Rupert Knowles, formerly private secretary to the Speaker of the Legislative Council, has been appointed the National Patriotic Fund Board’s commissioner in the Far East, with the approval of the British commanding officer there.
“In many respects he was a national figure,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, when paying a tribute in the House of Representatives yesterday, to the late Mr A. E. Glover, a former member for Auckland Central. Several members on both sides of the House, including the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, spoke to a motion placing on record the House’s appreciation of Mr Glover’s services, and extending sympathy to his relatives. Mr Paul Donnellan Hoskins, managing director of Catholic Supplies (N.Z.) Ltd., Wellington, has been appointed a member of the advisory committee to the T. G. Macarthy Trustees, succeeding the late Mr E. P. Bunny, Lower Hutt. Mr Hoskins, who was educated at the Marist Bros.’ School, Wellington, entered the service of the Post and Telegraph Department in 1891, and retired from that service as assistant accountant to the Post Office Savings Bank. He has been national president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society since 1930 and has also been hon. secretary to the Wellington Catholic Education Trust Board and president of the New Zealand district of the Hibernian Friendly Society. In 1922 he was decorated by Pope Pius XI. with the order of Knight Commander of St. Gregory.
