SAINT ANDREW SOCIETY

MR & MRS G. C. L. DICKEL FAREWELLED. During their residence in Masterton, Mr and Mrs Graham C. L. Dickel have freely given their services in numerous quarters, but probably no activities will suffer greater loss through their departure than those of the Saint Andrew Society. In recognition of this fact, the councillors of the society, and their wives held a social gathering in Mr and Mrs Dickel’s honour when a suitable presentation was made to them. Reference was made to the fact that Mr Dickel had for many years, been a member of the Society’s Council, and had, for a while, acted as honorary secretary. Mrs Dickel had ever been ready to give her services for the benefit of the society, particularly in such matters as the arranging of flowers and stage decorations at the society’s Saint Andrew’s night concerts, and the marshalling of children’s games at Halloween celebrations. Miss Lois Dickel’had always been very helpful at the society’s gatherings, and Niel Dickel’s piping had been of equal value to the society*. All had been worthy and enthusiastic members, who would be greatly missed. A number of musical and elocutionary items, together with supper, made the evening a very pleasant one, save for a touch of sadness at the thought of the impending departure from Masterton of the guests of honour.
