FEATHERSTON
BOROUGH COUNCIL BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council there were present: The Mayor (Mr J. W. Card), Councillors G. A. Farrier, S. P. Batcheler, C. R.. Skipage, B. B. Donald, R. R. P. Hardy H. W. Cundy and T. G. Hardy. The receipts since the last meeting had been: District Fund A/c., £328 3s lOd; Cemetery A/c., £33 15s; Library A/c., £2 6s Id; Domain A/c., £8 4s. Bank balances: District Fund A/c., cr., £B7O 10s 3d; Cemetery A/c., cr., £B5 9s lOd; Domain A/c., cr., £l7 15s 6d; Mayor’s Relief Fund A/c., cr., £BO 14s 9d; Water Supply Loan. 1936 A/c., cr., £lO5 15s sd; Library A/c., cr., £5l Is Id. The Medical Officer of Health wrote asking to be supplied with the number of building permits issued from January 1 to June 30, 1941. It was stated that the Clerk had supplied the information required. The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs wrote stating that a temporary cross had been ordered for the grave of the late W. Stewart, and asking that the same be erected. The Clerk was requested to attend to the matter. Mr H. A. Truman wrote advising of his appointment as engineer and health inspector to the Dannevirke Borough Council. It was decided that a letter be sent to Mr Truman congratulating him on his appointment and thanking him for the good Work he had carried out in the borough. The Director-General of Health wrote stating that Departmental officers would visit Featherston in order to determine what alterations and additions would be required at the Anzac Hall if taken over as a temporary hospital. The secretary of the local Home Guard wrote stating that advice had been received from the Wairarapa Hospital Board that all medical supplies for thg. Home Guard had to be requisitioned through the local council. and asking that a stretcher be applied for. It was decided to forward the request to the proper quarter. A letter was received from the secretary of the National Art Gallery requesting an honorarium. A giant of £lO was made. . The ranger reported having dean with 5 cattle during the month. The annual balance sheet was received from the Auditor-General as correct. Personal. Miss Phyllis Hood, who has been home on sick leave, will return to Wellington tomorrow.
