EARLY PEAS
HOW TO SOW THEM. Early peas may be sown with confi-| dence now whenever the soil is dry enough. Well-dug land will need only levelling down with a rake before drawing drills nine inches wide and three inches deep. Scatter the seeds thinly after coating them with red lead and kerosene against the attacks of mice. The rows should be at least four feet apart and after the seed drills have been raked in, the middle space between each two rows can be raked fine and sown with two rows of round spinach at one foot apart. Early white turnips may be sown as on alternative crop between the rows of peas, but only small sowings should bo made at this early date as they will run to seed if not used as soon as they are- of edible size. For early sowing Blue Bantam and Little Marvel are the best kinds for the average Masterton garden. Coronation is an outstanding second cropper.
