CARTERTON MEETING TOMORROW Arrangements Complete in Every Detail COMMENT ON THE HORSES (By “THE GRAFTER.”) The Carterton Racing Club’s meeting at the Clareville racecourse tomorrow should provide the most successful gathering held by the club for many years. I Excellent acceptances have been received and as the course is in splendid order there should be large fields in practically all the events. There are 16 acceptors in the opening race, and this should prove a good betting event. The race will start at 12.15 p.m. Arrangements are complete in every detail, and the capable secretary (Mr H. Mortenson) and the hard working band of stewards are doing everything possible for the comfort and enjoyment of patrons. A large contingent of visitors from Wellington and Palmerston- North is expected to attend the meeting.

FORM OF HORSES

WHAT THE PUBLIC MAY FANCY. RACES WILL BE HARD TO PICK. The even quality of most of the comthe meeting will doubtless make the task of the public in selecting winners a difficult one. The following comments may be of interest: — MAIDEN PLATE, of £lOO. Six furlongs.

Form in this race is mostly an unknown quantity. Yurilla ran nine times last season. She ran second to Autolite in the Electric Hack Handicap at Carterton in March, running a determined race, and was third to Wakarara and Roeon in the Pihautea Handicap at the Wairarapa Racing Club’s meeting in April, both races being five furlong events. Lord Defoe ran once last season. being unplaced in the Nursery Handicap at Masterton. Olein ran ten times last season without success. Eastern Sport, faced the barrier eight times last season, his only place being a third in the Trial Stakes at Foxton. Trekalong ran unsuccessfully three times last season. Madame Rachel, Midola, Molly Malone and Fox Tower ran unplaced last season. Black Sovereign scored a second last season in the Novice Stakes at Tauherenikau. This season's form may point to Yurilla, Eastern Sport, and Black Sovereign. GLADSTONE HACK HANDICAP, of £lOO. Seven furlongs.

Sports Flash is reported to be striding along satisfactorily and will be difficult to beat. She won two races last season, both at the Woodville) meeting. Red Dash won a similar) number of races —the Maiden Plate (6 furlongs) at Otaki, heading Hunting Squire and The Monarch past the post, and the Mokai Handicap (9 furlongs) at Tauherenikau, as well as running a couple of seconds. This season she ran unplaced in a big field in the Avonhead Handicap (7 furlongs) at Riccarton. and second at the Wanganui meeting, Arabic started 33 times last season for two wins. Arabic did no good at the recent Wanganui meeting. Gunyah succeeded once in eleven starts last season but is said to be shaping well on the track. The Whipper’s form this season is really unknown. He won on two occasions last season. Ruling Moment, Metonymy and Ramillies have little to recommend them. Te Ore ran with a fair amount of success last season. The favourites may be Sports Flash, Red Dash, Te Ore.

CARRINGTON HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, of £lOO. One mile and 80 yards.

Raana won the hurdles at the Wanganui meeting. Last season he registered a third in three starts. Colfort has done nothing this season so far and was equally unsuccessful last season. First Role is an unknown quantity, and Master Lackham ran third at the Wanganui meeting. Swftig ran twice last season without success and St. Grace ran nine times unplaced. The public may favour Raana, Master Lackharri and Colfort. WAIRARAPA COUNTY CUP. of £l5O. One mile and a quarter.

All the entrants are reported to be training in a satisfactory manner and a good race should be witnessed. Beau Ciel, Piastre and Trench Law may be well supported. JUVENILE HANDICAP, of £lOO. Four furlongs. 1

This is an open race but those most fancied may be Incident, Indian Sign. Martian Fox. BUNNY MEMORIAL CHAMPION HACK HANDICAP, of £llO. One mile and 80 yards.

This event looks, a good thing for Sandy Bay who scored handsomely at the recent Wanganui meeting, making three on end for the Eketahuna-owned gelding. Phyto won two races last sea-' son and is reported to be doing well in her track work. Kinkajou has not shown up well this season but is said to be striding along nicely at work. Kevin won a five furlong race last seasen. The public may prefer Sandy Bay, Phyto and Kinkajou. -I

TARATAHI HANDICAP, of £125. Six furlongs.

Par Avion on his performances at the Wanganui meeting will probably be a warm favourite. Majority won a hurdle race at the Wanganui meeting but ran unplaced in the Flying Handicap. Enrich is said to be running along particularly well in his work. Last seasen he won four races, including the Bunny Memorial Handicap at Carterton, and the New Zealand Derby of 1| miles. Duncannon ran three times last season for one win. He won over 6 furlongs at the Wanganui meeting on Saturday. Pay Roll scored four times last season and has been striding along nicely on the track. White Rajah and Blue Border are also said to be in good fettle. The winner will be hard to pick. The public may feel inclined to view favourably the chances of Par Avion, Enrich, and Duncannon.

ELECTRIC HACK HANDICAP, of £lOO. Five furlongs.

Absolve has nothing to recommend him. Last season he ran once, being third to Wakarara in the Macara Handicap at Masterton in October. Daljarrock registered one win last season and little is known of the Theio gelding’s form this season. Ex Pupil won a couple of five furlong races at Woodville last season and registered a third at Napier Park in November. She has done some good work on the track this season. Erinscourt is striding along nicely on the track and he may have a big say in the decision. Last year he won twice at Napier and was third in the Wairarapa Nursery Handicap at Tauherenikau. He was unplaced at Wanganui. Erinscourt, Ex Pupil and Makarora may find public favour.
