FRENCHMEN WHO ESCAPED FROM NAZI CAMPS SENT TO SPITZBERGEN. NOW JOINING DE GAULLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, September 10. French officers and men numbering 183, who escaped from German prison camps, have reached London from Spitzb’ergcn. After their many adventures they will join the Free French forces. They were taken prisoners in the Battle for France, escaped in small groups from German prison camps and walked to Russia through deep snow. They were interned in Russia, but were released when Germany attacked Russia and sent to Spitzbergen, whence the British landing party rescued them.
