RED CROSS ACTIVITIES
COUNTRY DISTRICTS SUB-CENTRE BUSINESS AT YESTERDAY’S MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Country Districts Rod Cross Sub-Centre was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. C. Gawith presided. Miss A.’ Daily’s resignation as hon secretary of the Red Cros was received with regret. The committee wished her every success in her new position. Ker place was taken by Miss Ethel Rutherford. The meeting decided to open a fund to supply comforts for local nurses going overseas and those already away. Regret was expressed that the subcentre was unable to farewell Miss Joan Bunny, a local nurse, who recently returned from Suva and was leaving New Zealand again. A small gift had been sent to her with the good wishes of the club. A vote of thanks was passed to all donors of woollen garments. A shop day is to be held on September 24. Arrangements were reported io be well in hand. The Country Women's Club is a hive ->f industry at present, many womenfolk being engaged in spinning, sewing and packing goods for overseas. Spinners are handing in quantities of wool for knitting for the Merchant Navy.
