WITHOUT WARNING

U=BOAT ATTACK ON SESSA STATE DEPARTMENT REPORT. ONLY THREE SURVIVORS. LONDON, September 10. The State Department announces that the Sessa (an American-control-led ship bound for Iceland) was torpedoed and shelled by a U-boat without warning. A Dane, a Swede and a Portuguese were the only members of the crew saved. Five Britons and one American were among those lost. ORDERS TO SHOOT LIKELY TO BE GIVEN TO U.S.A. NAVY. SHOWDOWN WITH GERMANY. NEW YORK, September 10. The “New York Times,” commenting on the Sessa incident, says: “America is heading for a showdown with Germany on whether we shall yield control of the seas to a government which seeks to destroy democracy.” Washington sources now expect that the Navy any moment will receive orders to shoot German warships and planes on sight in waters between America and Iceland.
