TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
MEETING IN MASTERTON. ADDRESS ON CHILD LORE. Mrs E. J. Burke presided at the general meeting of the Masterton Townswomen's Guild. Mrs W. H. Judd reported on the Patriotic Committee’s activities and members were thanked for their donations. The sum of £1 Is has been raised by voluntary contribution at the Guild meetings for the A.N.A. Club in Wellington. Mrs D. E. Lyttle appealed for screw top jars for the Red Cross Society. Mrs Wallis, of Te Ore Ore Road, announced that her garden would be open to visitors on Sunday, September 21, when a collection would be taken up in aid of parcels for prisoners of war fund. Mrs D. K. McKenzie, a member of the Blood Transfusion Committee, appealed for donors and several members submitted their names. Two enjoyable recitations were given by Mrs H. R. Keltic, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray. Mrs Davis Goff won the “pair of slippers" competition. Afternoon tea was served and then Dr Helen Cowie gave an address on “Child Lore" in which she outlined the customs and superstitions of the people living in the primitive age. Dr Helen Cowie dealt with the various organisations which had been set up in recent years for the improvement and education of children, and expressed the hope that parents would continue to teach their children freedom of ! thought and speech and to retain, their I individuality. Dr Helen Cowie was accorded a hearty vote of thanks and presented with a shoulder spray.
