SOUR GRAPES?
GERMANS ON OCCUPATION OF SPITZBERGEN. “TYPICAL PRESTIGE MOVE.” (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON, September 9. The occupation of Spitzbergen is described in Berlin as a typical pies* tige move, obviously aimed at stiffening the Soviet’s back. It is stated that Germany has little interest in Spitzbergen economically and the British justification for the step taken to prevent Germany using the coal mines, is far-fetched. A number of Free French officers and other ranks arrived with Norwegians from Spitzbergen and it is expected that most of them will join the Free French forces in Britain.
