NAVY LEAGUE
LADIES’ AUXILIARY MEETING IN MASTERTON. . COMFORTS FOR SEAMEN. A well attended meeting of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Navy League was held yesterday, Mrs S. R. Gawith. presiding. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. S. Forsyth W. G. Lamb, S. Fletcher, P. H. Nathan D. M. Graham, C. Deans, G. S. Williams, and Misses B. Vallance, J. McLaren and B. Barton. A sample of the blue bags in which seamen's comforts are nacked by the Wellington Navy League, was shown, and it was decided to purchase material and make some of these bags. The wool committee reported that 126 garments had been received since the last meeting. These included 68 Balaclavas, 27 pairs of socks, 17 pairs of gloves and mittens, 8 scarves, and 6 pullovers. Two local men are to be supplied with comforts. The remainder of the articles were packed for transport to Wellington. It was, reported that a good supply of 4-ply navy blue wool was now available and it was decided to buy some grey wool as well if obtainable. The food committee reported that it would pack a consignment of food after the meeting.
