CANTERBURY PARK STAKES WON BY READING. NEW ZEALAND HORSES FAIL. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, September 7. Showing a return to form, Reading won the Canterbury Stakes at the Canterbury Park meeting on Saturday, defeating High Caste by half a length. High Caste made a prodigious run from well back in the field, but Reading, hard ridden, just stalled off the challenge. Beau Vite, having his first race of the season, never showed up. The New Zealanders Serenata and Omapo were unplaced in the Campsie Handicap. A.nother New Zealander, Duvach, who was to have had his first outing in the Flying Handicap, met with an injury to his head en route to the course and had to be scratched. Results include:— Canterbury Stakes, 6f.: Reading, 9.2 (Munro), 1; High Caste, 9.2 (Bartie), 2; Amiable, 8.11 (Cook), 3. Six started. Half a length; length and a half. Time, 1.12. MEETING AT FLEMINGTON WARRISTON HANDICAP TO ROYAL PETER. CLOUDY BAY RUNS .WELL. MELBOURNE, September 7. The New Zealander Cloudy Bay ran a good race in the Warriston Handicap at Flemington to finish second only half a head behind Royal Peter. Results: — Whittier Handicap: All Veil. 9.0 (Hartney). 1: Kanuri, 7.12 (Ralph), 2; High Title, 8.12 (Reed), 3. Twelve started. Half a length; neck. Time, 1.14.
