WELLINGTON ACCLAIMS NAVAL CONTINGENT LUNCHEON AT TOWN HALL. Message of congratulation FROM' FIRST LORD. ■ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Wellington citizens turned out in strength at midday and gave a rousing welcome to a contingent of naval men who had been serving overseas. Headed by a band, the sailors marched through Lambton Quay and Willis Street to the Town Hall. As they passed, cheering crowds showered them with confetti. They were entertained at a luncheon in the Town Hall, given jointly by the City Council and Harbour Board. The welcome of citizens was expressed by the Mayor (Mr T. C< A. Hislop) .and Mr W. H. Price, chairman of the Harbour Board and the Government welcome and congratulations upon a splendid overseas record was voiced by the Acting-Premier (Mr Nash) and Mr Jones (Minister of Defence). A message from the First Lord of the Admiralty, warmly commending the officers and men upon their magnificent war record, was read by Mr Nash. Captain Bevan replied. Among those present were Commodore Parry, Captain Fanshawe, Pay-master-Captains N. T. P. Cooper and N. H. Beall, Wing Commander Bevan. A.D.C., Sir Harry Batterbee (British High Commissioner) and Brigadier Weir, representing Major-General Putt tick, Chief of the General Staff.
