RUSSIAN INGENUITY IN DESTRUCTION HIGH EXPLOSIVES IN VIBORG. TOUCHED OFF BY .WIRELESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, September 7. The Germans are forced daily to admit Russian ingenuity in destructiveness. when it is deemed necessary. The latest instance, the Berlin radio says, is the Russians exploding high-explosive charges in Viborg by remote radio control. Short-wave radio transmitters were used to touch off the charge. Berlin also says the Russians left in Viborg a number of time-bombs which exploded later, destroying historic buildings.
AIR LOSSES BRITAIN’S NOT EXCESSIVE. IN VIEW OR UNREMITTING OFFENSIVE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, Noon.) RUGBY, September 7. Seen in relation to the in'tense and unremitting offensive against German and German-controlled military and industrial objectives during the continuing period of German inactivity over Britain. R.A.F. losses of aircraft during the week ending on September G bear very favourable comparison with Axis losses in the same period. Over Britain, Germany lost four planes and the R.A.F. none. Over Europe, the Germans lost fourteen fighters and the R.A.F. eleven fighters and 28 bombers. In the Middle East, the Axis losses were 20 planes and the R.A.F. seven. The total losses were: — Axis 38 R.A.F 46 NAZI CLAIMS MODIFIED IN SOME DETAILS. ’ (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, September 7. The Berlin radio, after claiming that Leningrad was completely cut off. now admits that some land communication
with the rest of Russia is still open. The radio added that the city is under constant artillery fire. From the north, especially, the city is in extreme danger.
