Stud Sheep for Australia. Mr Anthony Hordern, of New South Wales, has purchased two high-class stud rams from Messrs J. G. and I. R. Donald. Alloa, Featherston. Child Scalded. As a result of burns he i eceived, it is understood, when he pulled over a tin of hot water from a stove, Colin Bricknell, aged ten months. Greytown, was admitted to Masterton Hospital yesterday. His condition is reported to be satisfactory. Air Force Examination. Considerable success has been gained by Masterton men in the R.N.Z.A.F. Training School at Levin. Leading Aircraftsman A. Barton passed out first in the Observers’ course and LeadingAircraftsman F. R. Bodie passed out first in the Pilots' Squadron with an average of 98.8 per cent, the. highest average yet recorded at the station. Other Masterton men who were successful in a recent examination were Leading Aircraftsmen H. Miller, H. J. Wright, J. P. Polson, S. Keith, C. Maunsell and M. Dixon.

Desertion Charge. Charged with desertion and with absenting himself without leave when under close arrest, Gunner Handley Page ‘Ells, aged 22, of the 74th Heavy Battery (Coastal Artillery Searchlight Section), 10th Heavy Regiment, N.Z.A., appeared before a court-martial at Fort Dorset on Saturday. He pleaded not guilty to the first charge, and guilty to the second. The finding of the Court will be referred to the officer convening the courtmartial, Brigadier N. W. McD. Weir, for his consideration. Evidence was given that Gunner Ells had been given two hours’ leave on June 20. He was finally posted as a deserter, and was arrested by the civil authorities in Clive, dressed in civilian clothes. He was marched into Fort Dorset under close arrest oh August 13, after an absence of 54 days. On the night of August 24-25 he and another man escaped from close arrest through an unbarred window, and Ells was marched into the fort again on August 26 under escort.

An evacuee from London, George Robert Morcombe, who has just died at Badwellash, Suffolk, at the age of 80, married young and became the father of 24 children. Only six lived through infancy.
