WELFARE LEAGUE
MEETING IN MASTERTON BUSINESS TRANSACTED YESTERDAY. NEEDY CASES ASSISTED. The monthly meeting of the Women’s National Welfare League was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon. Miss Kummer was in the chair. There were also present Mesdames E. J. Brown, A. W. McKenzie, R. C. Drummond, Stanley Fletcher, H. E. Pither, W. Andrews, S. J. Munn, S. N. Kilgour, Misses Wilson and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Carruthers, Tolhurst, Hunter, Misses Cameron, Beiliss. The sum of £5 was received from the T. G. McCarthy Trust. It »was decided to send the Trust a letter of appreciation. Mrs Drummond reported on her visit to the Masterton Hospital. A birthday party had been held in No. G Ward and the usual tea held. Papers, etc., had been distributed in other wardsMesdames Fletcher, E. J. Brown, Misses Kummer and Wilson were appointed visitors for September. Mrs McKenzie reported that three local needy cases had been assisted. Firing, milk and clothing had been distributed. The gift of hand-knitted woollen garments had been received from ah anonymous donor. The matter of arranging visits to the Buchanan Home this month were left in the hands of Miss Kummer and Mrs Munn. It was stated that another hamper would be sent to the A.N.A. Club, Wellington, later in the month. Donations could be left at Mr Ninnes’s shop. The secretary reported on her visit to the club. Thanks were accorded to Miss Wyber and Miss Boddington for gifts.
