SHOW AFFAIRS

MASTERTON ASSOCIATION LAMB COMPETITION. TO BE HELD AGAIN THIS YEAR. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held last night. The president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee, presided over a fair attendance. A. motion of condolence was passed with Messrs L. S. Nicol, F. Marshal, E. J. Lane, M. G. Mackay and Mrs Churchhouse, all of whom had suffered bereavements and also with the relatives of the late Messrs H. Burrell and Howard Spooner. The secretary of ,the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board advised that the district export lamb competition would bo held again this year, and asked for the association’s co-opera-tion. ' ■ . These present considered that the competition should be deferred until after the show. Mr L. Meredith said he would endeavour to get ten pens from his district.

It was decided to refer the matter to the association's Meat Board lamb committee to enable the views of the Carterton committee to be considered.

The secretary of the New Zealand Hereford Cattle Breeders’ Association wrote offering £2 2s as special prize money in the Hereford classes. It was decided to send the association a letter of thanks. The New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association advised that the autumn championship shields for the champion Romney ram and ewe would be allocated for competition at the forthcoming show. Advice was received from the Wellington, Taranaki, and Hawke’s Bay branches of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association that it had donated £2 2s as special prizes to be awarded at the approaching show, £1 Is each for the bull calf and heifer calf classes. The conditions would be the same as those set out for previous shows. Notification of show dates was received as follows: Feilding, February 3 and February 4, ram fair, February 5 and February 6, 1942; Taranaki, February 27 and February 28, 1942; Mackenzie County A. and P. Society, Fairlie, April 6, 1942; Waimate, November 29. 1941. The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association advised .that no show would be held for the duration of the war on account of the grounds being occupied by the military authorities. Mr N. Blatchford gave a report on the recent conference of the Royal Show Society, for which he was accorded a vote of thanks. Three resignations were accepted and four new members were elected.
