PROBLEM IN IRAN

DEFIANT NAZIS IN LEGATION COMPOUND REFUSAL TO SURRENDER. POSITION IN TEHERAN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 5. The authorities .in London, Cairo and Simla are exhaustively discussing military, political and economic policies in Iran resulting from the Allied occupation. The Iranians are making strenuous efforts to reduce the zones of occupation to a minimum. The Teheran correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain state that the Iran- police are taking action to prevent 700 Germans leaving the German Legation's compound in Teheran. The action was taken after a report to the Allies that the Germans had obtained tacit Turkish approval that they should take refuge in the Turkish Legation. This is denied in Turkish circles in Teheran and Ankara, where it is asserted that explicit instructions were given that the Turks should remain outside the controversy. The “Daily Express” version of the incident is that the Germans have barricaded themselves within the Legation and- threatened to defend themselves against any attempt to arrest them. Meanwhile the British forces entrenched in the interior of Iran hold the strategic centres and lines of communications.
