WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-M ANAIA MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the SolwayManaia Women's Institute was held in the Epiphany Hall on Thursday when Mrs Diamond presided over a fair attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames. Catton, Scrivener, Lepper, G. Allan, Sinclair, Catherall Junr., Sutherland Senr., Cotton, McAlister and Miss' McAlister. The roll call: “The Oldest Cup you Have,” brought forth some beautiful China, several being 150 years old. Mrs Church gave an interesting address and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competitions resulted as follows: —Best bloom: Mrs Munn, 1; Mrs Carr, 2; Mrs Webber, 3. Collection of spring flowers: Mrs Webber and Mrs Munn, equal 1; Mrs Wollett, 2; Mrs Reynolds, 3. Ginger gems: Mrs Diamond, 1; Mrs Munn. 2; Mrs Groombridge, 3. Knitted bed jacket: Miss Russell, 1; Mrs Thompson, 2; Mrs Reynolds, 3. Other knitting: Mrs Web" ber, 1; Mrs Groombridge, 2; Mrs Carr, 3. Mrs Carman and Mrs Foster were elected as delegates to the half-yearly Federation meeting to be held 'in Carterton in October. The programme for October will be: —Cooking: Pikelets; sewing, print frock, own choice as to size; flowers, collection of bulbs, best bloom; roll call. "What I Learnt from Miss CocksJohnston’s Play Reading." The hostesses were Mesdames Crewe, Cotton, Bannister and Lepper.
