MASTERTON ART CLUB

RUSSIAN MUSIC INTERESTING LECTURE. GIVEN BY MRS MILLER HOPE. There was a good attendance at the Masterton Art Club’s meeting’ last night when a lecture on Russian music was given by Mrs Miller Hope. The president, Mr A. E. Clemas, presided. Mrs Miller Hope stressed the point that Russia’s music was of great nationalism, built up from folk songs which were strong by reason of their primitiveness. The speaker played records by Moussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakoff and Tschaikowsky to illustrate her remarks. At the conclusion of the address the president announced that an invitation had been received from Mrs L. T. Daniell for the club to hold its next meeting on September 18, at her home at Akura. Active and honorary members were included in the invitation.
