RADIO LICENCE FEES
OPPOSITION MEMBERS.URGE REDUCTION. ! DISCUSSION IN HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ; WELLINGTON, This Day. A lively discussion took place in the House of Representatives this morning cn the broadcasting estimates totalling £297,770 when Opposition members strongly urged that there should be a reduction in the licence fees. It was pointed out that the reserves of the National Broadcasting Service were growing at a rapid rate and the licencing fee in New Zealand was the highest in the world. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr Holland, moved an 'amendment that the total vote be reduced by £lO as an indication that the total reserves of £BBO.OOO showed that radio fees to the public of New Zealand should bo substantially reduced. Discussion on the amendment was still proceeding when the House adjourned at 1 p.m.
