LADIES’ GUILD. INTERESTING TALKS ON FAMOUS WOMEN. The monthly meeting- of the Masterton Methodist Ladies’ Guild was, in the absence of the president, Mrs Hancox, presided over by Miss V. Jackson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Hancox, Kings, Prior, Nicol, Daysh and Shoosmith. It was decided that an executive meeting be held to discuss arrangements for the Pyramid Card Social gathering. Mrs A. Griggs provided the thought for the month.
Mesdames H. Lindsey and H. R. Rieltie were the tea hostesses. A vote of sympathy was passed to Dr. Prior in connection with the death of his mother. An interesting feature of. the afternoon's programme was the five-minute talk given by five members of the Guild on famous women. Mrs H. R. Keltic took as her subject K,’ tty Wilkinson, a Lancashire social worker, Mrs F. C. Daniell spoke on Helen Keller, the blind and deaf American author; Miss V. Jackson gave an outline of the life of Francis E. Willard, the founder of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union; Mrs W. Hendry spoke on Madame Curie, the discoverer of radium, and Mrs H. Speight gave extracts from the poems of M. Louise Haskins, poetess and authoress. On the motion of Mrs W. H. Judd, a vote of thanks was passed to the tea hostesses, to the speakers, and .to Miss Jackson for so ably presiding over the meeting at such short notice.
