AUSTRALIAN RACING CANTERBURY STAKES. WIGGINS TO RIDE BEAU VITE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) SYDNEY. September 3. Mr R. Stewart, who has entered Beau Vite for the Canterbury Stakes on Saturday, has engaged H. N. Wiggins to ride the horse in the absence of E. C. McMenamin, who is disqualified for two months. Mr Stewart said that Wiggins was not seen at his best on Kindergarten last Saturday, and would get a better opportunity on Beau Vite. No permanent arrangement has been made for a rider for Beau Vite pending the outcome of McMenamin's appeal, which may result in the reduction of the period of his suspension. Beau Vite is doing splendidly in his track work. Kindergarten is looking well after his race on Saturday, and was given only routine work yesterday. According to the “Sun,” most turf followers are surprised at Mr Stewart’s choice of Wiggins for Beau Vite when Darby Munro automatically would have been the rider. Mr Stewart desired to be loyal to a fellow New Zealander and expressed the opinion that Wiggins should be given a chance to vindicate himself. Moreover, Wiggins had already ridden and won on Beau Vite in New Zealand and therefore knew the horse, just as the horse knew him.
