HAPPY GATHERING

CALEDONIAN SOCIETY’S INGLESIDE FUNCTION IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT. SCOTS CEREMONIAL OBSERVED. The final Ingleside held by the Wairarapa Caledonian Society in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, last night, was an outstanding success in every, way and was a fitting conclusion to the enjoyable gatherings held this season. The hall was thronged with a large and happy crowd and all present voted the function one of the most successful yet held. The Ingleside was admirably conducted by Mr Jock McKenzie, an active director of the Caledonian Society for many years, and the success of the gathering was due in no small measure to his efforts. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr Jack Barnes's Orchestra and Mr J. J. Hunter carried out the duties of M.C. with commendable efficiency. With time honoured ceremony the haggis was carried in by the Society’s popular president, Mr H. E. Pither. Pipe Major Murdo McKenzie headed the procession. The address to life haggis was delivered by Mr T. S. Arcus, patron of the Society, in true Scots style, following which the steaming pudding was cut and served. Mrs David 801 l made the haggis. A delicious savoury supper was served by a committee headed by Mrs Jock McKenzie. Mr C. H. McKenzie thanked dhe president for the keen interest he had taken in the Society’s affairs, and announced that Mr and Mrs Pither had made presentations to members of the committee. Mr Pither, in reply, said that he had received the utmost support and co-op-eration from the directors and members of the Society for which lie offered his thanks. Mr W. Linton, Dalefield, was in excellent form with his piping for the Scots reels, which were entered into in a spirited manner. The singing of the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne brought a memorable occasion to a close.
