SOLWAY RAINFALL

RECORD FOR AUGUST. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured at Solway on 26 days in August, the maximum fall being 90 points on the 4th, and the minimum 1 point on the 2nd, 26th and 29th. The total for the month was 6.41 inches as against 4.37 (1940), 3.71 (1939), 2.62 (1938), 1.53 (1937), 3.06 (1936). The average for 38 years is 3.65 inches. The record for August is 6.69 inches on 20 days registered in 1916. In 1932 5.52 inches wore recorded on 12 days. The total rainfall for the eight months of this year was 33.39 inches as compared with 23.31 (1940), 21.93 (1939), 31.62 (1938), 23.10 (1937), 32.73 (1936). ' The average for 38 years is 26.94 inches.
