MESSAGE TO TROOPS
FROM CHIEF OF IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF. ASSURANCE OF ULTIMATE VICTORY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 2. The following message from the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, Sir John Dill, has been sent to the troops stationed in all parts of the Empire. “We enter the third year of the war. The Army can look with pride upon what has passed and with confidence into the future. We have passed through times of defeat and anxiety, through weary months of waiting, and through days of triumphant success. “No one can predict what the future holds. There may be still months of waiting in preparation for some, there may be still heavy blows to be met by others. But whether patience or hardship is demanded, the soldiers will, I know, carry out their task in the absolute assurance that, whether it* comes soon or late, victory will be ours.”
