STILL IN PROGRESS
NEGOTIATIONS IN IRAN ESSENTIAL ALLIED AIM. ELIMINATION OF NAZI MENACE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, September 3. Negotiations between the British and Soviet Ministers in Teheran and the Iranian Government are continuing and it is not possible at present to make any statement as to the stage which the negotiations have reached. The main British and Soviet purpose in these negotiations is to ensure completion of the task which compelled their forces to enter Iran—the elimination of the menace represented by a large and potentially dangerous German community in that country. It may be assumed that the instructions given to the British Minister, who has closely collaborated with his Soviet colleague, are such as to ensure that this menace will be effectively and fully eliminated within the shortest possible time. Moreover, Sir Reader Bullard’s instructions cover questions of the future, not only of the German Legation in Iran but also of the Legations of other Powers now under German control, and it is stated, in authoritative London quarters, that there are no valid grounds for the apprehension which has been expressed in some quarters in regard to this point.
