Mr T. M. Donovan has been elected the first life member of the Wellington Travel Club. The Rev. C. G. Hedley Bycroft, late of Dunedin, will be inducted as minister of the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church, Wellington, this evening. Mr K. James, the former New Zealand Test cricketer, who has played for Northampton since 1934, has joined the R.A.F. Mr James is the licensee of a hotel in Wootton. The death occurred in Palmerston North recently of Mr John Alderson, who was one of the pioneers in the Palmerston North district. He was 80 years of age. Members of the Masterton Post Office staff assembled recently to make a presentation to Signalman E. S. Donnelly. Before joining the Divisional Signalling Section of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, Mr Donnelly was a member of the construction branch of the P. and T. Department, Masterton. The Postmaster, Mr M. M. Simpson, made the presentation of a razor outfit on behalf of the staff, and wished him God speed and a safe return. Mr W. Ferguson, overseer lines branch, endorsed the Postmaster’s remarks. Well-known for the prominent part he played in the Rugby game, Mr Harold Archibald Elliot died in Wellington recently. A fine stamp of player in his day, Mr Elliot built up a playing record as a forward, and became popularly known as “Mother.” In addition to representing Wellington many times, H. A. Elliot was a North Island representative on three occasions. Mr Elliot is survived by his wife. There is also one daughter, Dorothy, and a son, Jack, who is among those reported missing on service overseas.
