MODEL PLANES
ACTIVITIES OF MASTERTON CLUB REVIEWED IN ANNUAL REPORT. INTER-CLUB & OTHER CONTESTS. The annual report of the Masterton Model Aero Club covering the activities of the club for the year ending August 31, 1941, states that during the year a further five members entered the Air Force and as in the cave of ether members in the training camps, they were giving a good account of themselves. The gas models had been very popular, as they developed a knowledge of mechanics and electricity The supervision of the work was carried out by Mr W. G. Perry who has had probably more gas model flying experience than anyone in New Zealand, and has won many contest prizes. The rubber powered and sailplane models had also proved successful. Several gained important successes at inter-club meetings. The club won the Vinson Cup, besides winning three first and four second, prizes, at a Labour Day meeting at Paraparaumu. Early this year an inter-club contest was held at Masterton among Wellington, Foxton, Palmerston North and Masterton clubs. Masterton gained three first, two second and one third prizes. The third annual Easter inter-club contest was held at Masterton. The introduction of a night flying Derby with illuminated planes proved very successful. Seven-ty-nine flights were recorded in 11 hours. During June a team from the club visited Wellington and won first and second places in an indoor contest. During the winter members were busy assembling new and damaged models.
